Applying early usually does not improve lottery odds
For a standard lottery with a fixed deadline, applications submitted during the valid application window enter the selection process under the program’s rules. The important thing is submitting a complete application before the deadline, not refreshing the portal at midnight like concert tickets went on sale.
After the deadline
- Applications receive or are associated with a log number or selection order.
- Preferences may affect how applications are processed.
- Housing providers request documents from applicants they reach.
- Income, household composition and other requirements are verified.
- A document request is progress, not a guaranteed apartment.
