First come, first served affordable housing

What FCFS means, what it does not mean, and how to prepare for short-lived affordable-housing openings.

Speed matters, eligibility still matters

First come, first served does not mean the first person to click gets the apartment regardless of eligibility. It generally means the provider processes qualified responses in an order tied to when they were received or according to the provider’s stated procedure.

Prepare before the listing appears

  • Keep IDs and recent income documents organized.
  • Know your household’s approximate gross annual income.
  • Know the bedroom sizes you can realistically accept.
  • Respond through the official application channel, not a copied third-party form.

SANEL provides housing information and eligibility estimates for convenience. Housing providers and government agencies make final eligibility and application decisions.
